Life in the Cold Unit
In this unit, we tried to answer the question, "What wood burns the longest? Oak, poplar, and alder?" The lab report below will explain what we did.
The Rude Gold Burg Project.
For this project we were told to make a rube goldberg machine with at least 12 steps and the end product was supposed to be something unique. For our rube we wanted to paint a Picture using an air cannon. Our rube started out with a ball rolling down an incline and knocking into a door. The door opened and allowed rice to flow down a tube into a bucket attached to a poly. The pulley knocks over a nut which spins down a rod and hits a domino track the domino hits counterweighted wheels that roll up hill. The wheels knock over more dominos and set off the air cannon.
Talking points
1. What hands on skills did you learn through working in your group? (construction, problem solving, collaboration, design, time management, etc...)
I learned how to work better with a partner and how to problem solve problems on the fly.
2. What steps were most challenging to make work? (How did you troubleshoot or redesign)
We had the most ruble on the spinning boult. The main issue we had was that we could not find an efficient way to get the boult to fall and activate the next step.
3. What was the hardest part of doing this project, how did you persevere?
I think that the hardest part is to have all the parts work smoothly together. We overcame that by taking out time on each step and not moving on until it worked.
