Your Life on Earth
For this last project, we were asked to explain and break down the meaning of life. I utilized a TED Talk given by Emily Esfahani Smith to further research what aspects help us understand the meaning of life. At a personal level, I took my own beliefs as described in my essay and found subjects that supported my thoughts. My inspiration was finding success in things that you do and how that can give you a meaningful life.I learned that there needs to be a balance among the various aspects of daily life in order to achieve a meaningful existence. My thinking has been influenced by creating a more conscious awareness of everyday life. With this new daily awareness, I have come to realize by watching Emily’s TED Talk that the small things like refusing a person's offer or unintentionally ignoring someone can give them a sense of not belonging which is one of the aspects needed to have a good life. From here I want to understand how to apply what I have learned from this project to my own daily life.
Eating is an Agricultural Act? The Ethics of Food and Eating
In this project, we learned where our daily food comes from and how we treat the animals can affect the quality of our food. We also learned how farms that treated animals humanely can produce food that is much healthier for both us and the animals. Because of multiple classes with two different subject matters I didn’t fully understand how they related. What we learned in chemistry was the science of food and in Humanities it was more of where food comes from and how it impacts our ecosystem. Food has a bigger impact on our ecosystem then people think as it takes multiple industries to get the food on to our plate. I’ve also learned that food production is one of the most calabritive industries. Growing up in a household where we had a lot of discussion about food production had taught me many things already so this has not changed my views on food.
The Divide
In this project, we wanted to show both sides on gun control. There are a lot of myths that say one side wants all guns to be talked away and the other side wants not laws on having guns. In reality, both sides have almost identical views on gun control. In the video below you can see the common ideas that both political partys have on this topic.
